Chigwaja Tree Planting 2024
In March 2024, The Makazi Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to environmental conservation through a meaningful partnership with Mount View International Primary School. Building on last year’s successful collaboration; where the Foundation donated recycling bins to promote sustainability, the latest initiative focused on reforestation efforts in Chigwaja, a community severely affected by environmental degradation.
About the project
Starting point
This year's initiative aimed to restore Chigwaja’s natural landscape, which has suffered from extensive deforestation; a key factor that worsened the devastating impact of Cyclone Freddy. The Foundation launched a public call for donations, encouraging individuals to contribute to the cause, even if it meant donating a single tree
Community Support and Impact
The response was overwhelmingly positive. Through the generosity of our community, we successfully planted 600 trees in Chigwaja. This was made possible through:
A K150,000 donation from Mount View International Primary School
An additional K70,000 in contributions from two dedicated well-wishers
These trees represent more than just greenery—they symbolize resilience, recovery, and a commitment to a sustainable future for Chigwaja.
The Foundation plans to continue this momentum during the upcoming tree-planting season in December 2024, with a strategic goal of planting 5,000 trees by the year 2030. This long-term plan is aligned with our vision for environmental restoration, climate resilience, and community empowerment.
