Gender-Based Violence Donation 2022

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence is an annual international campaign that begins on November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and goes until December 10, Human Rights Day. We held an online campaign raising awareness about GBV and ended the campaign with a donation to the Gender Justice Unit in Lilongwe.

About the project

Starting point

According to the World Bank, 42% of girls in Malawi experience physical violence before their 18th birthday. The presence of thee Corona Virus only amplified these problems. Whilst many organizations provided short-term help to victims of GBV, we identified the Gender Justice Unit as a place that provided long-term care and support to victims of GBV.

Support from local communities

To reach the young women and children who have been affected by GBV, the Makazi Foundation has donated clothes, shoes, DVDs, a camera and various items to the women of the Gender Justice Unit in Lilongwe. We appreciate the GJU for being open to receiving our donation and all the members of the public who donated towards the project.
